HI! I'M RACHEL.

I utilize an eclectic approach of theories, interventions, and techniques. I strive to have a honest and direct, yet caring approach, often working with individuals experiencing family and relationship conflicts, struggling with their relationship with self, dealing with shame or maladaptive coping, or experiencing new life transitions. I often work with young adults, but I see anyone 14 years and older! I am always open to exploring whatever is happening in your world, heart, body, soul, and mind. I make it my goal to process any stressors in your life or to dive into some deeper rooted experiences and emotions. You get to use the space for whatever you want, while I offer reflective listening, insights, observations, and challenges when needed.

Together, we will work towards your emotional self growth and healing, while talking practical tips for your well-being. I am open to any feedback and using an approach that best works for you; I will show up as me, you show up as you.

I encourage my clients to lean into their basic needs and desires for human connection. In our work together, you can expect to be aware, compassionate, and grace-giving when it comes to defenses, patterns, or themes in your life, as well as thoughts, anxieties, and emotions you may think or feel. We will also be curious about your younger self, while focusing on your mind/body connection and holistic healing.

It’s important that we create a safe environment where you can explore and have your experiences, thoughts, and emotions normalized as well as where you can feel validated, supported, and challenged when needed, but the ultimate goal is to provide this compassion, curiousity, and validation as a model so you can give it to yourself and others outside of therapy.

I value kind self-talk, self-compassion, boundaries, self-regulation, and being a secure base and anchor for yourself, because as a human, you need other people, but you also need you. The longest relationship you will ever have is with yourself: why not make it a good one?

Selcouth Counseling was created in 2022 after I came across the definition of “selcouth” [sel-‘kooth]: unfamiliar, rare, strange, but marvelous. This is what I want for us in therapy: a unique experience that is different from the outside world, but may be transferred to your outside relationships.

I have immediate availability for new clients. I offer in person sessions and telehealth sessions. My office is in Overland Park, Kansas. All telehealth clients must be in Kansas.

My hourly fee is $115 for individuals for a 45-50 minute session. I do not take insurance, but can provide superbill upon request. If you cannot afford my full fee, ask about sliding scale and discounted options starting at $75/session.

Additionally, I provide individual private practice consultation for new practitioners starting at $75/hour. You will also be provided with a copy of my step-by-step checklist for opening a private practice in Kansas. I can also provide group consultation (3 or more people) starting at $35/hour per person.

I am under clinical supervision of Dr. Amy E. Cain, LCPC in Kansas. I abide by the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Kansas.

Short Video Intro

I'm a talker, but I kept it short and sweet for this video. It's important for you to get a sense of who you're talking with, even before that first email is sent. Send any other questions my way!
